Peace is an elusive commodity
Some will spend millions seeking real peace
Bible speaks of two kinds of peace
There is the peace WITH God
There is the peace OF God
Isaiah 26:3-4 — contain a very precious promise
I. KNOWING THE TRUTH V. 3A
You > God Himself
Not found in a place or product
God keeps on keeping on
II. GROWING IN THIS TRUTH V. 3B
A stayed mind = a fixed mind
Especially in times of trouble
III. SHOWING THIS TRUTH V. 3C
“Because he trusts in You”
“Yah” = Yahweh = Jehovah = LORD
He is our peace
Have you ever seen God?
What does He look like?
A theophany = visible expression of God
to humanity
Examples: Moses saw God face to face
Jacob wrestled with God all night
These foreshadow the Incarnation
God is seen — only in Christ!
I Peter shows that God is real & present
For salvation, joy, encouragement, confort

Concluded: that infinite punishment is not
just … if the offense is finite
Believe in the annihilation of their souls
Is that Biblical thinking?
It fosters liberalism and false doctrine

Rich man himself went to Hell
Every sin has consequences

God feeds them all

If God clothes the flowers, will he take care

Do you know that God knows all about you?
You fight anxiety with your eyes and knees
Proverbs — written from a wise father to his son
Note chapters 2,3,5,6,7 “my son”
Solomon wrote it but Holy Spirit inspired it!
It is a word from God to us
Three commands and one promise
I. COMMAND #1: V. 5A
“Trust in the LORD with ALL your heart"
Trust = a synonym for faith
II. COMMAND #2: V.5B
“and lean not on your own understanding”
Must learn to lean on Jesus
iii. COMMAND #3: V.6A
“In all your ways acknowledge Him”
acknowledge = to know
IV. A PROMISE V. 6B
“and He shall direct your paths"
Cannot claim the promise without obedience
Sound doctrine is not very popular
It can lead to a compromising Gospel
Easy believism is still alive and well
Doctrine of sin is missing
Emphasis is on the self
Gospel makes much of the Law of God
Law must be preached for others to see Gospel
Acts 16 must be understood in its context
Addressed to a particular individual:
1. He had just witnessed 4 miracles v.26
2. He was deeply stirred v.27-28
3. He felt need for illumination v.29
4. His self confidence was shattered v.28
5. He fell down before Paul & Silas v.29
6. He showed them respect v.30
7. He had a deep concern for his soul vv.33-34
V.30 - When is the last time somebody asked you that?
He believed, repented and was baptized!
The Cross is an event of cosmic proportions
It is a God-event
And forever is to be the message of the
Earthly Church and Heavenly Church
It is the answer to every human problem

Applied by the Holy Spirit vv.13-14

The main anchor of our lives has been
Sovereign, sustaining grace of God
Didn’t always know it but He was there
Through it all …
Grace never promises you freedom from troubles
He always has the last word!

II. GOD WILL CAUSE US TO PERCEIVE HIM V.39
God is not your buddy or your pal

The sin of worldliness is a disgrace to grace

What does it mean to be worldly?
Impossible to love the world and God

That prince is Satan himself

Satan is very cunning and smart

We are called to live separate from the world!
Theos = God
Logos = Word
Theology is words about God

Some of us are bruised reeds
They are everywhere you look
Seen by Jesus and He does not break it

Lord must be worshipped in an acceptable manner
We are given specific instructions
Not frivolous, shallow or self-glorifying
III. THE DEMANDS OF TRUE BIBLICAL WORSHIP
Begins with Proverbs 1:7
Must know Him to fear Him Jer. 9:23-24
Our worship is only as high as our knowledge of Lord
“In spirit and in truth"

Rebellion is a rejection of God’s will and
commands; to defy God’s authority
We see today this sin is still prevalent:

King Saul is the personification of rebellion

Doesn’t know how to determine God’s will
II. REBELLION RATIONALIZES OUR SIN VV.7-14
Went to see a witch ( A medium}
III. REBELLION REFUSES GOD’S MERCY VV15-20
Saul became an adversary of God Himself

Not real or lasting
Easy to go through a dry spell
What do you do when that happens?
David had lost his confidence and joy
God is a faithful Father who waits for us to return
4 ways God sought David
I. BY CHANGING HIS CIRCUMSTANCES 29:1-11
Lived for 16 months in Ziklag
He retreated from the LORD
II. BY REMOVING HIS JOY 30:1-6
Sought joy in the world rather than in God
III. BY GIVING HIM GRACE 30:7-20
What did David do? Look in vv. 9-15
IV. BY INCREASING HIS WISDOM 30:21-31
Wisdom is David’s response in vv.23-24

David asked for the Lord’s guidance v.19a

Men usually don’t care about the details
Just "give it to me and let me put it together"
Two categories of believers:
Shoppers =
Buyers =
David was a “buyer” — Acts 13:22
In II Samuel 6 David learns that God cares about details

We don’t call it adultery anymore
it is simply called an affair

He stayed behind …

David tries to cover up his sin

Joab knew what was happening

God always holds the king accountable
Chapter 11 > the commission of sin

Sin is ugly, deceptive and costly
Sin will take you further than you want to go
Sin will make you stay longer than you want to stay
Sin will make you pay more than you wanted to pay
CONSEQUENCE # 1 : SUFFERING 12:14-15
Sin always, always brings suffering
CONSEQUENCE # 2 : DEATH 12:18
Sin brought judgment to David’s house
CONSEQUENCE # 3 : ACCEPTANCE 12:18-19
David accepted it …finally
CONSEQUENCE # 4 : WISDOM 12:24-25
Put sin behind him and moved on
Do you believe in infant salvation? baptism?
A subject rarely preached on
Important to grieving families
And for what it tells us about God’s character
Some Christian denominations believe in

God had forgiven David of his sins … yet
He still must pay the consequences

No one is exempt!
